A quick visit to Istanbul on Friday morning. At least digitally. As part of a talk at the Naumann Foundation Istanbul, I highlighted the role of AI in the context of civil society organisations and talked about trends in Europe. The focus was not only on technical applications or legal frameworks, but also on how AI can support social goals. AI is often reduced to increasing efficiency, for example in human resources or resource management. But that's not the whole story: the targeted use of AI can significantly optimise the impact of policies and achieve overarching goals more effectively. And there are examples of this in the public interest as well! AI offers the opportunity to better analyse data, identify patterns and make informed decisions. This is particularly true when technological innovations are aligned with democratic values and social goals.
